One of my favorite features of Scottsdale is the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt. Or as I simply refer to it, the Greenbelt.
The Greenbelt is a 15 mile stretch between Tempe and North Scottsdale with a multi-use path used by many for walking, jogging, and biking. In my opinion, one of the greatest benefits beyond the beautiful scenery is the fact that the path goes below all of the major roads keeping people and traffic separate. My use of the Greenbelt is mostly from Tempe to Central Scottsdale - and it is simply Gorgeous!
Interestingly we have the Greenbelt because Scottsdale used to have a problem with flooding. The community and a group of Army Engineers created the idea of a Greenbelt rather than a concrete storm canal with mixed use including parks, and golf courses along the path.
A few shots of the path.
My favorite part of using the Greenbelt is not having to deal with traffic since the path goes underneath (or over) all major roads!
When it rains, the underpasses do flood. You should never enter a flooded underpass.
It rains so infrequently here though, it doesn't happen Often.
If you're looking to grab a bite or a cold beverage, there is bicycle parking outside of RTO Sullivan's and Duke's and both are right on the Greenbelt.
A few others that are near the Greenbelt but don't have the best bike parking (we lock our bikes to a tree or we just walk) are Uncle Sal's, Side Door, and the Blind Pig. Uncle Sal's is a little on the fancy side especially if you've been riding your bike around all day, but a little more casual if you sit at the bar. Plus they've got an excellent bar menu.
Skate park in El Dorado Park.
